The ASGS is an amazing organization that has a great deal of knowledge being shared on their facebook page over at https://www.facebook.com/ASGSGlass. The work done by these scientific workers push the boundaries of what is possible in glass. Most of the items they produce are custom fabricated for very specific purposes which either Borosilicate or Quartz glass are the ideal material due to purity and durability. Truly astonishing work, definitely worth checking out the resources they are posting up for all to see!

Don't try this at home.

Comments

We would like to thank Professional Scientific Glassblower Mike Gnann for documenting and sharing a number of his experiences making large-scale borosilicate glass used in scientific and laboratory applications.

The scientific glassblowers are responsible for crafting glassware for a wide variety of applications such as laboratory testing/research purposes, commodity production processes (including beer and other alcohols) and even in national defence weaponry!  Without these very skilled and dedicated glassblowers, modern scientific research would not be where it is today.

The History of Glass Alchemy Glass Co.

8/17/2014

Comments

A large factor contributing to the spike in the borosilicate industry has been the expansion of the available colour palette used in our artwork. GA is one of the main companies for boro coloured glass production helping to push the bounderies for new and exciting compatible colours. We all owe a great deal of gratitude to a very few rather small colour production companies such as Glass Alchemy for keeping the industry alive with new and exciting material to work with as well as improvements on old products while keeping up with rapidly growing demand!
